This template is designed for use in the ship infobox of articles on ships that are in active service. The template uses Template:As of, so any changes to that template may be reflected in this template even if this one has not been edited.
Usage
[rætta wikitekst]Add {{ship in active service}}
to the field "Ship status"[1] like this:
|Ship status={{ship in active service}}
This will display as in the sample infobox at right:
Skeið (Landsnavn) | |
---|---|
Status: | í virknari tænastu, per 2024[update] |
Parameters
[rætta wikitekst]The template will default to using the current year, 2024, but for ships where the status is known only for an earlier year or date, optional parameters can display the earlier date.
{{ ship in active service}}
{{ ship in active service | year | month | day | url = }}
For ships known to be active in the current year:
{{ ship in active service }}
→í virknari tænastu, per 2024[update]
For ships known to be active in a previous year:
{{ ship in active service | 2008 }}
→í virknari tænastu, per 2008[update]
For ships known to be active at a more specific earlier date:
{{ ship in active service | 2005 | June }}
→í virknari tænastu, per juni 2005[update]
{{ ship in active service | 2000 | March | 11 }}
→í virknari tænastu, per 11 mars 2000[update]
To provide a link through which future editors might check to see if the ship's status has been changed, use the url
field. For example, for USS Enterprise (CVN-65), enter this:
{{ship in active service | url = http://www.nvr.navy.mil/nvrships/details/CVN65.htm }}
→í virknari tænastu, per 2024[ref]
For editors who have these links enabled (see Wikipedia:As of), this would display as:
- In active service, as of 2024[ref]

[rætta wikitekst]Notes
[rætta wikitekst]- ↑ Despite the name of the template, it is better placed in the "Ship status" field rather than "Ship fate"; status implies an on-going condition, where fate implies a final, perhaps irreversible, condition.
