English: Memorial Park in Vágur, Faroe Islands. View towards south the main street and the harbour Vágs Havn. The street is called Vágsvegur. This is a public park, where various events are held during the year, i.e. the opening ceremony of the Jóansøka festival is held here, the Fareoese flagday on 25 April is celabrated here, the 12 March Grækarismessa, which is a celebration of the return of the national Faroes bird Tjaldur (Oyster Catcher) is also held here. In the beginning of November at All Saints Day (Allahalgannadag) there is a ceremony here in order to remember and honour the people from the village who lost their lives at sea. There is a memorial here, which is a statue of a woman holding a steer of a boat. Behind the statue there are copper plates with the names of the dead written on them.
Føroyskt: Minnisvarðin í Vági er mitt í býnum. Myndin er tikin beint sunnanvert standmyndina við útsýni suðureftir móti Vágsvegi, Vágs Havn og fjallinum Rávuni. Fiskapláss sæst eisini á myndini. Tiltøk verða hildin á hesum plássi fleiri ferðir árliga, t.d. tá jólatræið verður tendrað, á Grækarismessu, Flaggdagin, á jóansøku annað hvørt ár, Alla Halgana dag osfr. |
