Hetta er tann Føroyska wikipeda. Ekki donsk!. (Skrivað av 88.85.59.212 2010-02-18 22:00.)
Hetta er tann Føroyska wikipedian. Tessvegna skulu allar greinir vera skrivað á føroyskum. Kortini, á kjakini kunnu vit skriva á føroyskum, enskum, donskum, svenskum, norskum,... . Med vänlig hälsning, Jörgen B 22. feb 2010 kl. 19:24 (UTC)[reply]
Eg vil viðmæla at tað bert verður brúkt Føroyskt, Danskt og Enskt á kjaksíðum her, síðan hetta eru tey mál sum flest Føroyskt talandi duga. uackor 23. feb 2010 kl. 08:32 (UTC)[reply]
Niceley 2. mars 2010 kl. 18:14 (UTC)
Eg eri samdur í at norrønur mál kunna nýtast, ikki finskt! So um ein ikki skilur okkurt vil eg mæla til at tað verður tikið upp aftur á donskum ella enskum. vh. uackor 3. mar 2010 kl. 10:58 (UTC)[reply]
Niceley 3. mars 2010 kl. 12:31 (UTC)
Í skúlanum hava vit lært málini, enskt og danskt. Men svenskt, norskt og dansk líkjast sera nógv, tá skrivað verður, so tað átti ikki at verið nakar trupulleiki at lisið tað. Men hetta ein elalítil trupulleiki, tí stendst trupulleiki burturúr, tí partarnir ikki skilja hvønn annan, so hava vit altíð Google Translate ella aðra orðabók, ið kann umseta tekstin til danskt.--ROARD 1. jan 2011 kl. 03:23 (UTC)[reply]

Umboðsstjóri og embætismaður[rætta wikitekst]

Eg havi eitt uppskot.

I'll try to answer Quackor's questions in English. (I'm not at all sure I can express it as well there, since my experience of associations is mainly from Sweden.)
In my humble opinion, the wikipedias now and then get new users (often very young), who misunderstand the organisation of the wikicommunities a bit. They may be used to some kind of computer games, where you must perform a number of tasks, fight the evil ones, find hidden treasure, or solve some riddles, in order to be able to advance to the next level. I've seen questions from new users in svwiki, which apparently were asking for the "rules of the game" in order to reach the next "level", i.e., administrator rights.
Now, I don't say much about this. People have different motives for participating in the wiki projects. I hope that most discover the joy and fascination of being able to contribute to a rather different way of collecting and producing a universal encyclopaedia; but, even so, there will be other side motivations. If some people are vying for community appreciation, barnstairs, and an administratorship, and this leads them to making more and better contributions to the wikis, then that is excellent. Also, taking other users in consideration is a good way to avoid edit-wars and other unconstructive situations.
However, while receiving administrator rights is no big deal, and in a sense indeed could be a natural "next level" for the starting wikipedian, the buerocratships IMHO are quite another matter. We select or appoint bureocrats, not primarily because their actions have merited that, but because the community has demand of a few persons with extended rights. When we see the need of this, then we choose from people who are qualified - or wait until there are qualified people to choose from. One part of the qualification is that the candidate shall have realised that this indeed is a common effort, and that the bureocratship is an assignment from the community for performing duties in the service of the project and the community - not the "third level" in some personal advancement plan.
I compared with selecting officers in an association. You do not let all members who fulfil some requirements advance to the level "chairman/chairwoman". You choose one person, mainly on qualifications, sometimes also because that person agree with the majority in some policy issues. The chosen chairperson may or may not also have personal ambitions for further advancements; if such ambitions are put before the assignments and responsibilities implicit in the election, the person is making a grave mistake.
My additions are motivated by the rôle a bureocrat has. (S)he should be aware not only of editing tools and documents, but also of the general organisation, of the various name spaces, of the rôle of Wikimedia Foundation and of stewards, to name a few things. Each wikipedia community now and then needs to discuss fundamental issues; the bureocrat should be aware of this, and know what they lead to. A bureocrat has some power to enforce policy; but this should only be used as intended, i.e., in order to enforce the policies decided upon by the community - which means that the extra power mainly is used in enabling ordinary edit and administration, mostly done by other users.
An ordinary administrator does not need the same overview, and especially not to start with. His/her primary task is to further good and counteract bad editing in the article namespace. A broader outlook is recommendable, i.e., in order to decide whether some material should or shouldn't be moved to wikisource. However, it is not necessary.
These explanations got a bit longer than intended. I don't think this is very relevant as regards Niceley's present candidature. Niceley has pointed out that fowiki would benefit of having two bureocrats. I agree, and I think that he is qualified (although he should acquaintance himself with other parts of the project, if he feels that he still has some "blind spot"), and I do not think any other qualified person is interested now. These are my reasons for supporting his candidature; not the fact that he is the most active contributor to the article namespace.
Did this make things clearer, or just more confusing...? Jörgen B 13. mar 2010 kl. 15:57 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Joergen, this sounds very good and I think I agree with most, although it possibly was not an answer to the question I posed, it did clear out some ideas about bureaucrats, which are out there. I think an administrator should try and answer questions, posed by users, on article discussion pages. A bureaucrat on the other hand, I think, should be active (also) in the Wikipedia name space, minimum in the Village Pump page. Active here defined as participating in discussion and also as editing the help pages. An administrators or bureaucrats does not have to write articles, but he should be familiar with wikicode, consensus, style guides etc. (of course you only get familiar if you have tryed writing). uackor 14. mar 2010 kl. 11:54 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Niceley I stil think there are some things which should improve; 1. activity in Wikipedia namespace and 2. Neutral point of view (e.g., [1]). uackor 14. mar 2010 kl. 11:54 (UTC)[reply]
Uff!
I agree that his Darwin editing was extremely bad; and also and worse, he didn't seem to realise what the problem is about. This way of introducing Darwin's work and theories of course is absolutely unencyclopedic, and that is completely independent of whether or not he can find references for the few factual claims in the article. Even if every single claim would be attested by reliable sources, that would not merit more than a brief mention in the introduction, which should concentrate on Darwin, the main outlines of his work, and only in the third place the impacts of his theories on the world, then and now. These impacts indeed comprises much more than converting Marx to materialism - even if that claim were attestable.
IMHO, the factual issues here are not that important as regards a buerocratship; but the unencyclopedic attitude is. Most of what I've seen from him in later years seemed to hold a higher quality. However, this needs to be clarified.
Niceley's answer, where he just discusses sources for the factual claims, clearly grossly misses your criticism.
Diupwijk 16. okt 2011 kl. 11:37 (UTC)[reply]

Please put your translation on my Meta-Wiki talk page. Thanks in advance for your help! Cbrown1023 kjak 25. aug 2010 kl. 15:39 (UTC)[reply]

2010 Fundraising Is Almost Here[rætta wikitekst]

Hello Wikipedians, I am Dan Rosenthal and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between your community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into different languages and suggesting messages that would appeal to your readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. We've started the setup on meta for both banner submission, statistical analysis, and grouping volunteers together.
Use the talk pages on meta, talk to your local communities, talk to others, talk to us, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. If someone could translate this message I would really appreciate it so that everyone is able to understand our goals and contribute to this year's campaign.
